The side effects depend on what type of plastic surgery. For example if you are talking about making your breasts larger then one of the side effect is the silicon can leak.

Like, how did cosmetic surgery benefit/hurt our economy? What are the side effects of cosmetic surgery, physically? What does it say about America, which has one of the largest cosmetic surgery industries? Is it ethical? Is it the reslut of low self-esteem? Does it imply to much value in appearances? graphs, numbers, real-life stories, anything would be helpful. Thanks.

i would think you didnt receive answers due to this question being in the Philosophy category, which if you are just asking for opinions on it, personal opinions, that would be fine, but it seems you want detailed info, which would seem to get into the medical and psychology fields,,,,,
i think, like most things, it can be used for good or bad, caring about ones appearance is not wrong, nor is it a result of low self esteem,, at the same time, if you place too much importance on outward appearance or expect it to solve your problems, then you have entered a negative area,
our bodies are of course part of our total selfs, we develop and use technology in other areas, i see nothing wrong with using it in cosmetic surgery,
i suggest for the details you want, you research the effects of it,
